SCISSORS JAPAN works out of Kurobe City in Toyama Prefecture, and its whole identity rests on two pieces of blade engineering that genuinely set it apart from most makers.

The flat-back idea

Look at the back of almost any professional shear and you will find a concave hollow ground into it. SCISSORS JAPAN replaces that with LSBS, short for Limitlessly Shallow Back Surface, a flat back the brand argues holds a more consistent blade angle from heel to tip. The practical claim is longevity: with no deep hollow to grind away, repeated sharpening eats into the blade more slowly, so the scissor keeps its geometry through more years of service. It is a real design philosophy rather than marketing dressing, and it is the reason these shears feel different in use.

The second piece is CTN, the Catch Triangle Notch, a patented run of small triangular notches on the still blade meant to stop hair sliding away during a cut. It ships in two flavours, one tuned for wet cutting and one for dry. The pivot, meanwhile, uses a bearing the brand calls a circular three-dimensional contact point, aimed at steady blade pressure through the stroke.

Ordering and price

This is a semi-custom operation. You pick the blade line, blade shape, thinning rate, and handle size to suit your hand and technique, which means the pairs run made-to-order with a lead time of several weeks. The range covers cutting and thinning shears across slide, blunt, base, dry, and wet cutting. Steel is a proprietary stainless rather than a published grade, so confirm specifics when you order. Premium pricing applies, roughly 400 to 800 dollars.
