About ScissorBrands

Pinning down a straight answer about which scissor brand to buy used to mean wading through manufacturer marketing, anonymous forum arguments, and retailer pages that called everything “the best.” There was no single place that just laid out the facts — who makes what, from which steel, and what to ask about price and current terms. ScissorBrands exists to be that place.

ScissorBrands publishes a directory of 216 hair scissor brand profiles, plus buying guides, a steel reference and a side-by-side comparison tool. Profiles vary in depth. Some have maker links and model details; others are short records with gaps that still need checking.

We are not a shop

We don’t sell scissors. There’s no cart or checkout here. A link from a profile takes you to a maker or an external seller, where you need to confirm the current model, price and terms.

We can’t process an order, return or warranty claim. Some seller links may earn us a commission; this does not establish that a seller is authorised or has stock. Check the seller’s relationship and warranty terms with the maker before buying.

What we actually do

• Brand profiles. Entries record the information available for that brand. Missing fields mean the detail has not been established in that profile; a listing is not a verified specification for every model.
• Buying guides. Comparison guides and explainers written for real decisions: your first professional pair, upgrade paths, and brand comparisons for barbers, for thinning, for left-handed cutters, and by price.
• A steel reference. Steel grade is one part of a shear’s specification; heat treatment, edge geometry and maintenance also shape how a pair feels and how long its edge lasts. Our steel guides translate 440C, VG-10, cobalt, ATS-314 and powder metal into what they mean at the chair.
• A comparison tool. Put any two or three brands side by side on steel, price tier, origin and handles.

How we research and verify

The maker’s current product documentation is the preferred source for exact-model facts. Retailer listings can help identify a model, but seller claims should be attributed and checked. The directory is being reviewed profile by profile; a maker link alone does not verify every claim on a page. Price tiers are broad comparisons, not live offers.

Where a page gives an editorial view, read its cited sources and its stated trade-offs. A written view does not imply that we tested the scissors by hand.
