Pinning down a straight answer about which scissor brand to buy used to mean wading through manufacturer marketing, anonymous forum arguments, and retailer pages that called everything "the best." There was no single place that just laid out the facts — who makes what, from which steel, at what price, and whether it's actually worth it. **ScissorBrands exists to be that place.**
We're an independent reference and review site covering professional hairdressing and barbering scissors. Today that's **216 brands across 13 countries**, each with a verified profile and an honest, written review — plus buying guides, a plain-English steel reference, and a side-by-side comparison tool.
## We are not a shop
This is worth saying plainly: **we don't sell scissors.** There's no cart, no checkout, no stock to move. That matters, because it changes the incentive. A retailer's job is to sell you the pair they happen to carry; our job is to tell you which pair is right — even when the honest answer is "the cheaper one" or "not the brand you came here looking for."
When you're ready to buy, we point you to each brand's official website and to the authorised retailers who stock it. We can't process an order, a return or a warranty claim — for those you deal directly with the brand or the shop you bought from. What we can do is make sure you walk into that purchase knowing exactly what you're getting.
## What we actually do
- **Brand profiles.** Every maker gets a structured profile — country, founding, headquarters, parent company, steel grades, handle types, price tier, official site and authorised retailers — followed by an original review that weighs the trade-offs honestly.
- **Buying guides.** Best-of lists and explainers written for real decisions: your first professional pair, the smartest upgrade path, the best brands for barbers, for thinning, for left-handed cutters, and by price.
- **A steel reference.** The grade of steel drives feel, edge life and price more than any logo. Our [steel guides](/learn/steel/) translate 440C, VG-10, cobalt, ATS-314 and powder metal into what they mean at the chair.
- **A comparison tool.** Put any two or three brands [side by side](/compare/) on steel, price tier, origin and handles.
## How we research and verify
Every profile starts from primary sources — the manufacturer's own specifications and documentation, and the catalogues of authorised retailers. Where a figure isn't published, we say "not disclosed" rather than guess. Steel grades, founding dates, headquarters and parent companies are checked against the maker's own materials. Pricing is given as an indicative band by region, because it moves; we always tell you to confirm the final price and warranty with an authorised retailer before you buy.
Our reviews are opinionated on purpose — a review that won't commit to a view isn't much use — but the opinion sits on top of the facts, and we're explicit about who a brand suits and who should look elsewhere.
## Editorial independence
We don't accept paid placements or sponsored reviews, and a brand cannot buy a better write-up or a higher ranking. If a sample is ever provided for hands-on assessment, the page says so and on what terms. You can read the full detail in our [editorial policy](/editorial-policy/) and [review methodology](/reviews-methodology/).
## Who it's for
Students and apprentices buying their first real pair; working stylists and barbers deciding when and what to upgrade to; and salon owners and educators kitting out a team. If you cut hair for a living — or you're learning to — this is built for you.
