Saki

Saki is a USA brand, run by Saki Shears out of Excelsior, Minnesota, that takes the familiar small-American-brand approach: source Japanese steel, build to a handcrafted finish, and sell at a price that undercuts the imported names. The shears are handmade and, distinctively, finished with titanium coatings, which is partly cosmetic and partly about a slicker surface in the hair. The audience is professional stylists and barbers, and a good chunk of the appeal is getting real Japanese-steel performance without the premium ticket.

Steel by model

The range spans more grades than most brands this size. You will find 440C at the durable, sharpenable end, the cobalt-rich VG-10 and cobalt-based ATS-314 in the middle, Damascus for buyers who want the patterned look, and a powder-metal option on select models for the longest edge life. The Kotaro, for instance, is built from 440C hardened to roughly 60 to 61 HRC. That spread means a stylist can buy in at the value tier and step up in steel without changing brand.
